Submitted manuscripts are assigned by the Managing Editors to a Handling Editor based on the contents of the former and the workload of the latter. The Handling Editor
All Handling Editor decisions should be supported by a brief justification based on the reviewers' reports or the editors own reading.
In case of acceptance, the Managing Editors will make sure the final version of the manuscript conforms to the journal style, assigns it to a Volume, and publishes it on the journal website in a timely manner.
Manuscripts are selected based on their quality and potential interest within the nonsmooth optimization community. Correctness is an essential requirement. Novelty is expected from research articles. Articles of more expository nature, while not expected to provide novel results, should provide new insights into their subject matter.
Authors may appeal decisions by Handling Editors by contacting the Managing Editors.
The journal is committed to free open access to its contents, without any cost to authors or readers. Authors (or their employers) retain the copyright to their articles, but must grant third parties the right to use, reproduce, and share the article according to a standard Creative Commons (CC) license (unless a stricter open access license is required by employers or funding agencies).
Although not a requirement for publication, the journal also recommends that any source code (algorithm implementations) and data associated with the manuscript be made publicly available. This can be done, and a citable DOI identifier obtained, through platforms such as Zenodo.
To submit an article to the journal, the next process should be followed:
Manuscripts should be prepared in LaTeX. Once an article is accepted for publication, the final version must be built with the journal style files available further down this page.
Prior to submission to the journal, the manuscript must be published on arXiv (alternatively HAL) using a valid Open Access license :
When the article is submitted on arXiv, one of the Creative Commons (CC) licenses has to be selected unless required by employers or funding agencies (e.g., US government agencies). Many science funders specifically require the CC-BY license.
There will be no copyright transfer to the journal: authors retain the copyright, and merely grant the journal the right to publish the article through the CC Open Access license.
Once an arXiv identifier has been assigned to the manuscript, it may be submitted using the epijournal platform.
If revisions are requested, authors should update the manuscript on arXiv, and once the updated version has been published on arXiv, use the epijournal platform to communicate this along with a detailed response to the reviewers.
If a manuscript is accepted, the authors will be provided with the publication information (DOI, volume, acceptance date) that should be entered into the document source (using the journal's style files) prior to the final submission on arXiv. No further copy-editing will be performed by the journal.
Authors may appeal a rejection decision by Handling Editors by contacting the Managing Editors through jnsao@episciences.org
Final accepted articles should be built with the following LaTeX style files:
These style files are compatible with the standard LaTeX article class and BibTeX for bibliography generation as available on arXiv. The following template files show their use for articles:
All of the files are also available as a single .zip file.
